I’ve experienced this firsthand, receiving assistance with everything from choosing grass seed to troubleshooting a toilet leak. They even helped a fellow shopper find a specific 90-cent screw!

They also stock specialized items for older homes, including replacement vents, and offer metric-sized bolts and nuts, something I couldn’t find at the big box stores. You’ll even find unique items not available at larger chains.
• Personalized Attention: Expect a personalized shopping experience. Staff actively greet customers upon entry, offer assistance, and walk you to the exact product you need. They’ll gladly spend time discussing DIY options and problem-solving with you. One employee, Steve, is particularly noteworthy for his product knowledge and helpfulness, both in person and over the phone.
• Additional Services: Mack True Value offers lawnmower and other equipment repair services. They’ve successfully repaired a broken lawnmower for me and others. They also repair screens and windows; however, be sure to clarify details in advance (see section below).
• Community Focused: This is a great hometown, family-owned business that clearly cares about its customers and community. It’s a pleasure to shop here and support local business. They even offer free popcorn!
• Clean and Organized Store: The store is always clean and well-organized, making it easy to find what you need.

Why You Might Consider Alternatives

• Inconsistent Service Experiences: While the overwhelming majority of reviews praise the exceptional service, I have heard of an instance where a staff member’s overly-attentive assistance became unwelcome and led to a negative interaction. The staff member’s response to the customer’s request for less assistance was also inappropriate.
• Discrepancies in Service Quotes and Work Performed: I experienced a situation where a phone quote for screen repair differed significantly from the in-person price, and the scope of work was changed without prior notice. This inconsistency was disappointing, especially given the generally positive reputation for service. Therefore, I highly recommend confirming details and pricing before committing to any repair work.
