Eastway Home Hardware: A Shopper’s Perspective
Why You Should Visit
- Extensive Selection of Building Supplies: You’ll find a wide range of construction materials, home vanities, plumbing supplies, and flooring products. This is a great one-stop shop for home renovations, especially if you’re working on a large project. They even carry Benjamin Moore paint at competitive prices.
- Competitive Pricing: While prices vary, I’ve found them to be generally competitive with other home improvement stores, potentially even saving you money compared to big box stores like Home Depot.
- Free Home Delivery: For larger orders meeting a certain threshold, they offer free home delivery, adding convenience to your purchase.
- Helpful Staff (in some instances): I’ve had excellent experiences with some staff members; notably, Brayden provided exceptional customer service. Also, the loading yard staff were friendly, helpful and efficient in loading my materials.
- Convenient Location (but check parking): If this store is convenient for you, it is worth a look. Be aware that parking is limited.
Why You Might Consider Alternatives
- Product Availability Issues: The store’s inventory seems inconsistent. They don’t carry all the brands found in other Home Hardware locations (e.g., Beautitone paint) and may not stock seasonal items (e.g., gardening supplies). Also, online ordering is unreliable; they cancelled one shopper’s order without explanation.
- Inconsistent Customer Service: Be aware that several shoppers reported negative experiences with staff rudeness, long wait times, and a lack of product knowledge. The overall customer service experience appears to be inconsistent. This is especially true if you aren’t of Asian descent.
- Return Policy Limitations: They don’t offer in-store credit. While returns are accepted within 30 days with a receipt (excluding special orders), this makes returns less flexible than at other retailers.
- Store Conditions: The store can be dusty, especially concerning less-demanding products. This can be a concern to some shoppers.
- Limited Lumber Yard Access: Access to the lumber yard is restricted. This makes it challenging to check your items before purchasing.
- Pricing Inconsistencies: I’ve observed instances of prices not matching the tagged price, leading to overcharging.
- Potential for Return Issues: If you need to return an item, note that processing returns in the store can be problematic.
