Menards Shopping Guide: An Informed Visitor’s Perspective

Why You Should Visit

  • Massive Selection: You’ll find an incredibly wide variety of products, ranging from hardware and lumber to sporting goods, home repair items, even contract ring cleaning supplies. It’s practically a one-stop shop if they expanded their offerings to rival Walmart. The garden section is particularly noteworthy, described as excellent.
  • Convenient Online Ordering & Pickup: You can order items online for in-store pickup, though be aware that pickup locations may require a considerable walk across the vast store.
  • App Assistance: The Menards app is a helpful tool for locating specific items within the store. It’ll tell you the aisle number.
  • Unexpected Delights: You’ll find food items available (including apparently excellent ice cream!), a pleasant surprise for many shoppers.
  • Occasionally Excellent Service: While service is inconsistent (see below), I did have experiences with incredibly helpful staff members (Zoey and Anna were specifically mentioned). The occasional helpful employees can be a lifesaver when you need assistance.
  • Large Pet Supplies Selection: I saw an extra large $85 Petmate Dog kennel available, though check your purchase carefully as parts may be missing.

Why You Might Consider Alternatives

  • Inconsistent Customer Service: Be aware that while some employees are incredibly helpful and kind, a significant portion seem disinterested and unhelpful. Expect long waits for assistance, and potentially dismissive or rude interactions with staff. Many staff members were openly unprofessional. I experienced prolonged waits and multiple instances of employees choosing to ignore customer requests for assistance.
  • Challenging Store Layout: The store is enormous and the layout is described as confusing, with aisles running in multiple directions. Navigating the store can be a significant undertaking.
  • Limited Mobility Cart Availability: If you rely on electric mobility carts, be prepared for potential disappointment. The number available is insufficient for the size of the store, and their functionality is unreliable.
  • Return Policy Issues: While you can return items, the process might involve significant effort. I attempted to exchange missing hardware for a dog kennel and was unsuccessful, requiring me to return the entire item myself.
  • Price Concerns: While a large selection is great, the prices may not always provide the best value. The overall saving potential is questionable.
