Why You Should Visit
- Extensive Inventory: You’ll find a surprisingly diverse range of products beyond typical hardware. They stock shop tools, toiletry supplies, yard equipment, nuts and bolts, and even a unique selection of specialty sodas (including cucumber!). I even found some hard-to-find small hardware items there. The selection of bulk nuts and bolts is particularly noteworthy – one of the best around. They also carry construction/high visibility clothing.
- Exceptional Customer Service: Shoppers can expect friendly and helpful staff. Multiple reviews praise their knowledge, willingness to assist, and even their proactive approach in helping customers locate items. In one instance, a staff member went above and beyond by helping a customer identify, install, and figure out what they needed for their mobility scooter. Another time, two gentlemen quickly located 12 of the exact specialty screws I needed, even though they knew I was in a rush.
- Competitive Pricing (Generally): While some items may be pricier, many products, especially bulk nuts, bolts, and fasteners, are reasonably priced or even competitively priced compared to other stores. The store often runs sales as well.
- Convenient Location(s): I’ve personally visited the Jamestown location and know of similar positive experiences at their Bismarck and Dickinson stores.
- More than Just Hardware: Beyond hardware, you can grab a snack – the popcorn is highly recommended on Saturday mornings (not during the pandemic).
Why You Might Consider Alternatives
- Price Fluctuations: Be aware that prices can be significantly higher on certain items. For example, a small bag of bolts was $80 at one point (as of August 2024). This seems extreme, even considering current inflation.
- Personality Conflicts: While the majority of experiences are positive, one review describes an encounter with a staff member with a red beard who had an unusual and potentially off-putting interaction. Though it might have been a joke, it’s worth noting that such experiences can occur.
