RH Indianapolis: A Shopper’s Guide
Why You Should Visit
- Breathtaking Setting: The 151-acre estate is gorgeous; it feels like stepping into a movie. The Palladian-style villa, a 60-room showcase of furniture and art, is architecturally stunning. Expect plenty of photo opportunities throughout the meticulously landscaped grounds, including a 35-acre lake with turtles and abundant hydrangeas. You’ll find unique pieces and good staging throughout the property.
- Exceptional Dining: The Dining Room offers a phenomenal experience. While pricey (be prepared!), the food quality often matches the cost. The menu is diverse, with popular options including the burger, truffle fries (10/10!), lobster roll, potato puree, butterscotch brûlée, chip and caviar (perfectly salted), kale Caesar salad, lox platter, and a variety of breakfast/brunch items. Expect attentive and upbeat service; I had a fantastic waitress on two separate occasions. The new brunch menu is notably improved. Note that wine and some beer are offered, but not hard alcohol.
- Excellent Customer Service: Both restaurant staff (mentioning specific servers like Libby and Missy who provided exceptional service) and showroom staff (Lee) are consistently praised for their helpfulness and attentiveness. Larger party accommodations were readily available.
- Convenient Location: Easy to access with plentiful parking.
- Unique Shopping Experience: The showroom is a destination in itself. While some find the furniture somewhat homogenous and perhaps outdated, the overall ambiance is undeniable. The terracotta floor hallway is a standout. There’s an option to browse furniture both before or after a meal.
Why You Might Consider Alternatives
- High Prices: Be aware that the restaurant and showroom are on the pricier side. Wine prices, in particular, seemed exorbitant ($20 for a glass of Riesling, comparable to a bottle’s price elsewhere). All servings are à la carte, adding to the overall expense. While some find the cost justified by quality, others felt it was overpriced for what was offered.
- Inconsistent Service: One experience reports a significant wait for service, with a group left unattended for 15 minutes, despite other customers being served. Another suggests a potential issue with preferential treatment based on race.
- Food Safety Concerns: One review described a food poisoning incident (shrimp starter) that affected multiple diners.
- Mediocre Showroom Experience (for some): While many rave about the beauty of the grounds and overall setting, some find the showroom lacking in diversity and variety, with repetitive furniture pieces. Many furniture pieces seemed outdated and available at a lower cost at the RH outlet.
- Limited Alcohol Selection: Only wine and beer are available; no hard liquor is served.
