Westerly Home Depot: A Shopper’s Perspective
Why You Should Visit
- Excellent Customer Service (in some areas): I’ve had truly exceptional experiences with certain staff members. One associate, Chris, went above and beyond, assisting with loading a heavy countertop and ensuring I received the sale price. Another staff member at the service counter provided helpful assistance with both in-store service and a return/exchange. The return department also impressed me with their efficiency, even while handling a difficult customer. You’ll find many employees friendly and willing to assist.
- Great Lumber Department (with caveats): The lumber department had a positive review. Stephen provided accurate measurements and cuts for my lumber project. However, be aware that the selection might include more damaged wood than other stores.
- Convenient Location and Layout: This is a smaller, rural store with wider aisles and less clutter than larger urban locations. Ample parking is available, and the restrooms are remarkably clean.
Why You Might Consider Alternatives
- Truck Rental Nightmare: Avoid renting trucks here. On multiple occasions, trucks weren’t available despite reservations, causing significant inconvenience. The staff in the rental department is described as lazy and doesn’t appear to check trucks properly upon return.
- Inconsistent Product Availability: The store’s stock can be unpredictable. I had difficulty finding a specific adapter for an exhaust fan, forcing me to shop elsewhere. Another shopper also mentioned that the lumber selection is often comprised of scraps and damaged wood.
- Online Ordering Issues: Online orders are unreliable. My experience showed significant delays, damaged items, and inaccurate tracking information. Expect delays and complications when ordering online – it may be better to visit the store in person.
- Poor Service for Large Orders: My shower door order was plagued with delays and communication failures. The item arrived broken, causing further delays. The pro desk associate, Danielle, provided excuses rather than solutions. For larger, more complex orders, you might find a smoother experience at a competitor.
- Aggressive Sales Tactics: Be prepared for persistent solar sales staff who may interrupt your shopping experience.
- Return Policy Issues: Be aware that the return policy on air conditioners is now 7 days, and may not be clearly communicated. Store credit only was offered, instead of a full refund in at least one instance.
- Window and Slider Installation Problems: Avoid using Home Depot for window or slider installation. A customer reported extremely poor quality products and even worse installation service, rendering the product effectively useless.
