Newark, Ohio Home Depot: A Shopper’s Guide
Why You Should Visit
- Exceptional Customer Service: You’ll encounter genuinely helpful and friendly staff members. I’ve personally experienced this with Terry, who went above and beyond to assist me with a thermostat issue, even saving me money by suggesting a simple fix first. Similarly, Tom at the service desk showed impressive professionalism and willingness to order parts not in stock. Larry in the hardware department also provided excellent and professional service.
- Wide Selection (With Caveats): While some items might be out of stock (I couldn’t find several things), the location offers a broad range of products, including thermostats, plumbing supplies, batteries, and plywood. They also carry DeWalt fans, although online inventory accuracy should be viewed with caution.
- Prompt Delivery (for Appliances): Appliance delivery is available and can be prompt and courteous; however, see below for significant caveats.
- Helpful Staff Expertise (In Some Departments): Greg in Plumbing provided excellent advice. Erik in another department also proved instrumental in solving a customer’s plumbing issue.
Why You Might Consider Alternatives
- Inaccurate Online Inventory: The online inventory is frequently unreliable. Don’t rely on the online listings; going to the store is the only way to ensure product availability. In my experience, this proved very time consuming.
- Limited Stock of Certain Items: The store sometimes lacks essential items for projects. I struggled to find specific DeWalt fans even though they were listed online. The same lack of stock extended to tile spacers. If your project requires specific components, you may need to shop elsewhere.
- Inconsistent Expertise: While some staff members are incredibly helpful, others may struggle with complex requests. I personally found explaining a simple custom fitting requirement to be incredibly challenging. If you need specialized help or detailed advice, be prepared to clarify your needs multiple times.
- Major Appliance Issues: I had a terrible experience with appliance delivery and service. The delivery team refused to remove appliance doors as requested, and subsequent attempts to resolve the issue were frustratingly inefficient, leading to multiple missed appointments and an overall negative experience. The $200 discount offered was insufficient compensation for the inconvenience caused.
